Darien 45: 2007 Ford E450 Type 3 Box Mod

Darien 45 is our Ambulance. “A Hospital on Wheels”, she was purchased in 2007 when we started. Darien 45 is equipped for up to and including the Paramedic level of care with cardiac monitoring. Darien 45 is not always staffed by a Paramedic. The level of care you receive is dependent on the personnel available.

What does a new ambulance cost? As of spring 2024 our most recent quotes for a similar 2WD replacement delivered at the end of 2025 would cost around $220,000 to bring into service. That’s with no additional features except the natural technological improvements. To purchase a new ambulance with 4WD which would then move the base vehicle from an E450 van to an F450 Truck would be around $275,000. Used options are available but difficult to get ahold of and still often exceed $100,000 with high mileage. Lead times can range from 1 - 3 years for an ambulance purchase.
